About Midwest Project Healing Waters

Project Healing Waters (PHW)  http://www.projecthealingwaters.org/  is a national and international fly fishing volunteer program that "serves those who have served". There are currently 75 active programs over 38 states and the program continues to grow as volunteers commit to helping our wounded and disabled veterans in their local communities.

Fly Fishing serves as a basis for their recovery through:

  1. Physical Therapy
  2. Mental Therapy
  3. Emotional Therapy
  4. Spiritual Therapy

The programs are conducted by volunteers from many aspects of the communities where they have been organized including fly fishers, boat owners, land owners, equipment and components suppliers, rod builders, communications companies, transportation companies, parks and recreation facilities, state departments of natural resources, legislatures,  educational institutions and educators, health providers, special equipment providers, and countless others through donations of time, talent and treasury.

 Clubs/Organizations involved include:

  • Eau Galle Sportsman club
  • Federation of Fly Fishers
  • Indianapolis Fly Casters
  • Laughing Trout fly fishing
  • Michigan Fly Fishing Club
  • St. Cloud Fly Anglers
  • St Paul Fly chuckers
  • The Drift
  • Trout Unlimited (Local Chapters)
  • Individuals

Sessions are conducted with and through therapists who continue to work and incorporate fly fishing activities as part of the veterans therapy program. This includes hands on activities including fly tying, fly casting, etc. and educational "seminars" conducted by volunteers.

"Outings" have become an extremely gratifying activity as veterans, volunteers and therapists gather on the water to share the day together.

Come help "serve those who have served" and be moved.
